The term Massage Therapy refers to a group of practices and techniques.  They include pressing, rubbing and manipulating the muscles and other soft tissues of the body, often varying pressure and movement.  The intent is to relax the soft tissues, increase the delivery of blood and oxygen to the massaged areas, warm them, and decrease pain.  Massage Therapy also shifts the client's nervous system from sympathetic to parasympathetic.  The parasympathetic nervous system allows breathing and heart rate to slow down, while stimulating digestion, circulation and positive brain activity.  This encourages the production of seratonin and endorphins.  Massage also helps prevent the build up of scar tissue, increases lymphatic flow to help the body fight disease and improves sleep.

Massage Therapy has been proven effective for reducing, relieving or eliminating

Stress                                       Muscular Tension                               Pain

Fatigue                                    Depression                                            Skin Imitation

Poor Circulation                   Blood Pressure                                     Cramps

Headaches                             Scar Tissue                                             Strain

Insomnia                                Edema                                                     Stiffness

Spasms                                    Eye Strain                                              PMS

Arthritis                                  Digestive Issues                                   Spider Veins

to name a few.  Many stress- induced and auto immune diseases are relieved by massage.  Massage Therapy can also be used as an adjunct treatment to other therapies in order to achieve greater benefit.  It has been shown to aid healing of injuries and speed recovery from surgery.  More and more, massage therapy is being prescribed by MD's, Chiropractors, Physical Therapists and Psychologists for their patients to improve mood, health and function.  It is a valuable tool in preventative medicine and has been shown essential in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

There are few risks to massage therapy if it is used appropriately and provided by a trained professional.  All of our therapists are fully licensed and continue to receive ongoing education to keep their skills current.  The client's comfort and safety is always our first concern.  Your therapist will call on a variety of modalities to customize the perfect massage for you.
